Word of the Day – Service
Wednesday’s Note from Mr. Bart
Good Morning Camp!
It’s the middle of what would be our camp week. Some Wednesday thoughts…
- Polar Bear and Rookie Badge Check #3
- Camp Toast
- Tribe Flags and Songs
- Preparations for Skit Night
- Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup
- Ain’t No Flies On Us
- The Yard Sale
- T-Shirts
- Rookie Fashion Show and Dance-Off
- The Merit Race
- The Carnival
- The Horses
- The Rotarians
- The Rookie Meeting
Reviewing this list floods my mind with fun and happy memories. Good times and great fun! By Wednesday my voice is shot from all the shouting and singing and my cheeks are tired from all the smiling and laughing. A solo or a genuinely kind act from a camper puts a lump in my throat and brings a tear to my eye that wasn’t expected.
By Wednesday, the range of human emotions has hit me and I’m again filled with a deep understanding of why I return to this spiritual place every summer.
2020 would have been my 40th straight year of working for GVRC. 40. That number seems unbelievable to me. I was thinking about Wednesday at camp and 2 things came to mind.
We hand out the camp t-shirts today. It’s been that way for all 39 years I’ve been working at GVRC. Probably before that too.
The Rotarians come to Camp Sam Wood for their meeting. They visit with us and see the benefits of our hard work that their sponsorship and support provides.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Rotary’s motto is, “Service Above Self”. A simple yet powerful message about giving of one’s self and serving others. The GVRC staff has always lived by that motto. Therefore, today’s word of the day is: SERVICE.
Thank you GVRC staff for all your SERVICE to the campers. Thank you too, for the SERVICE to the Camp Sam Wood property and to the spirit that is the Genesee Valley Rotary Camp.
Have a great Wednesday! Thank you for your continued SERVICE to GVRC.
Here Is Love.
